Safety is my priority!
I hold current certificates in both food safety and blood borne pathogens. I have complete transparency when it comes to my protocol and am happy to answer any and all questions you have about my process. Your safety, as well as mine, is of utmost importance!
I never process more than one placenta at a time
Never worry that your placenta will come into contact with someone else's blood products, or worse get switched with someone else's placenta! I never process more than one placenta at a time. If I receive two placentas in one day, I completely finish the encapsulation process before bringing the second placenta into my work space.
My equipment is properly sanitized
My equipment comes into contact with people's blood products, so it's important that all equipment be disinfected properly to avoid cross contamination. All of my equipment is washed in hot soapy water, rinsed, and then immersed in a 10% bleach solution for 20 minutes. Afterward, the equipment is given a clean water rinse to remove any bleach residue. This is the standard required by OSHA and the EPA for disinfection and is designed to kill STD's and blood borne pathogens. I never re-use sponges, gloves, cutting boards, knives, or scissors.
My surfaces are properly disinfected
I clean my entire preparation area before, during, and after with a 50% bleach solution to prevent cross contamination. I then do a clean water rinse to remove any bleach residue.
I ask the STI status of every client I servce
I am happy to serve clients who test positive for infectious diseases and hold no judgement regarding the results, As I adhear properly to all Sanitation guide lines to prevent spread of disease contamination. I simply require that your placenta be fully steamed and dehydrated at the highest setting to kill all bacteria and or present infections.
I do not encapsulate placentas that are sent to pathology
In some situations, your care provider may want to send your placenta for additional testing. It is important to note that if your entire placenta is sent to pathology, I am unable to encapsulate. It is sometimes possible to request that only a small portion be removed and sent for testing. The major risks of encapsulating a placenta that has been to pathology are:
1.) There is no way to ensure that your placenta will be kept at a safe temperature, which can promote bacterial growth.
2.) Your placenta could come into contact with contaminated surfaces and tools.
3.) Your placenta may be exposed to chemicals or preservatives such as formaldehyde.
